In August, male Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners from Wendywood and Alexandra High Schools in Johannesburg benefited from direct exposure to the realities of running a progressive, modern and profitable business. The learners were recently hosted for a full day by Sandton-based Accsys as part of the Company’s annual Boys in Business Day initiative.
Accsys is a proud member of the Business Connexion (BCX) Group and national supplier of people management software and hardware solutions within HR, payroll and time & attendance.
The Company devised a full programme for the Day including several Departmental Sessions. These sessions afforded the group of learners the opportunity to see how critical areas like Sales, Support, Communications, Development and Technical function.
Managers and key operational personnel from Accsys gave of their time for the Day and led interactive presentations on topics including Men in Business, BCoE; Contracts & HR, Business Etiquette and PeoplePlace overview & interview process.
Learners used the opportunity to ask business leaders questions and receive valuable advice on issues that will impact on their careers.
Dr Liam Terblanche, COO at Accsys, welcomed the learners and stressed the value of the Day and the opportunity to be hosted by a professional and profitable business.
Fari Chibgwe, HR Officer at Accsys, explained the role and function of HR in business, detailing the fundamentals that form part of the employer/employee relationship – including employment contracts, leave, codes of conduct and disciplinary action.
Recruitment Assistant Lungile Zondi offered more insight into the interview process and Accsys’ recruitment division PeoplePlace. She provided an overview of various channels used to recruit people and what job applicants should bear in mind in terms of the interview process.
Aspects like company research, self assessment and dress code all form part of the pre-interview preparation Zondi said.
Malini Jaithu, Accsys Training Manager, presented on eLearning and Business Etiquette and the value these add to people management practice, solution development and application.
The day ended with a presentation from Accsys CEO Teryl Schroenn who emphasised the importance of adequate career preparation and the need to be proactive, start early and approach the job market with diligence and confidence.
The response from learners to the initiative was very positive.
